Residents of Cham gi wadu in Rongo county have voiced security concerns following the mysterious murder of a woman in the area.
The body of 42-year-old Elizabeth Anyango Odhiambo was discovered in her bedroom with visible injuries to the neck.

Witnesses who addressed the press claimed the deceased may have indulged in an altercation with her assailant leading to her death.
“According to the assessment of the place, it seems that the person who did that was wrangling with the woman,” a resident stated.

Another resident raised security concerns in the area and requested the government to look into the murder.
“It is clear that security issues are something that is highly questionable in this place, now that such an incident has occurred. As a people of this place, we are kindly asking the government to do the due diligence.

“Let them get into the depth of the cause of Nyar Gem’s death, and as a people we would really want to know that” he said.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the peace that had previously existed in the area, expressing concerns that such incidents would undermine the sense of safety among the residents.

Furthermore, Cham gi wadu residents called on the police to ensure their safety by conducting regular patrols.
Speaking to the press, the area chief, Moses Ayieko who confirmed the incident condemned the murder and reassured the residents that investigations into the incident had already commenced.
Moreover, he urged anyone with information about the murder to come forward discreetly and inform the police to aid in the investigations.
Reports indicate that the victim was a businesswoman who was well known among the residents of Rongo Town.
Rising Insecurity in Rongo-Migori County
The murder of Elizabeth comes in the wake of another tragic incident in February 2024, where two men were shot dead, and two others injured near the police station in Ntimaru.

Witnesses reported that the suspects were wearing full police uniforms and armed with firearms.
“The National Intelligence Service (NIS) should establish how these people came here because they were in full police uniforms and armed with guns. So, people will fear attending to police officers when they come for services, “said Daniel Wambura a resident of Ntimaru.
Additionally, Wambura urged the government to enhance security measures in the constituency.
