Car dealer Khalif Kairo defended himself against fraud claims moments before appearing in court.
Taking to his X platform Khalif Kairo whose real name is Joseph Kairo Wambui narrated his ordeal after his arrest on January 11, 2025. Kairo was arrested over allegations of defrauding a client.
He revealed that he was engaged in an altercation with an officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the complainant who was his client, whom he accused of humiliating him.
Influential client using DCI to frustrate Kairo
“I have spent the past two days in Capital Hill police station as a guest of the state. After my altercation on Saturday at Nairobi area police with a DCI officer plus a client who was hell-bent on humiliating me by secretly recording videos of the arrest and interrogation for circulation on the internet through paid bloggers,” stated Kairo.
Kairo also insinuated that the officer tried to strike a deal with him a decision that has led him to be presented in court.
“I declined to “negotiate” a quick settlement as expected and instead insisted to be presented in court today,” added the car dealer.

According to Kairo, one of his clients has been using the DCI to mete out harassment on him. This he said has made it hard for him to do business, and to sort out the issues that have befallen him.
“I have endured significant harassment past few weeks and despite my insistence that we amicably sort issues using civil procedures, some well-connected clients have been using the same DCI officers to frustrate me making it even more difficult for us to conduct business and address their issues which are civil in nature and backed by commercial agreements,” added Kairo.
Khalif Kairo admits to bankruptcy
The car dealer admitted to his business undergoing financial turmoil but stated that he remains optimistic that he will rise again. He also thanked everyone who has been supporting him.

“I am not a criminal but one of the many honest business owners in Kenya experiencing challenges due to tough economic times. I will be presented in court at Milimani Lawcourts shortly. I remain strong, committed to resolving any pending issues and I know that this is a phase we will overcome as a company,” stated Kairo.
