The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) uses cut-off points to determine whether a student is eligible for various degree programs. Different programs have varying cut-off points.
The 2024 admission cycle had only a few select programs that had the cut-off point exceeding 44 points, indicating high academic standards and the competitive nature of certain programs and admission to the institution offering the programs.
The programs with KUCCPS cut-off points above 44 included those in the fields of Medicine, Surgery, Dental Surgery, Computer Science, and Mechatronic Engineering.

Some of the country`s leading universities that offer the programs include: the University of Nairobi, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Maseno University, Egerton University, Mount Kenya University, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), and Kisii University.

The cut-off points correspond to students who have attained strong A plain grades of 83-84 points in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
Students who attained 81-82 points are advised to reconsider ranking these programs as their top choice and instead opt for other universities that offer the same course with lower cut-off points.
Alternatively, they can consider a self-sponsored option, where applicants who meet the minimum requirement of C+ can still be admitted, providing an alternative to higher learning education in cases where they do not meet the KUCCPS cut-off points.
