The administration of Chesamisi Boys Senior School has clarified the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of Eugene Oundo Wekesa, a student who died on Monday morning, March 16, 2026.
In a statement dated March 19, the school noted that it delayed public communication to allow the completion of medical examinations and official investigations.
This, the school adds, aimed at ensuring that accurate information was shared with stakeholders and that the family’s privacy was respected.
Postmortem Confirms Cause of Chesamisi Boys Student’s Sudden Death
According to the school principal, Protus Wendela, the postmortem examination confirmed that Eugene Wekesa died due to an underlying medical condition.
Protus Wendela stated that the report indicated that the Eugene had an enlarged heart, which led to his sudden death.
“The report confirmed that the deceased had an enlarged heart, a condition that led to the sudden death,” read part of the statement.
He argued that the findings ruled out any negligence, misconduct, or mistreatment by the school.

While expressing condolences to the family, Chesamisi Boys raised concerns about the spread of misleading information alleging negligence.
The school warned that such claims are unfounded and stated that action may be taken against those spreading false information.
“The school is currently consulting with the relevant authorities and reserves the right to take appropriate action against individuals spreading defamatory and unverified information,” read part of the statement.
Chesamisi Boys reiterated its commitment to student safety and urged the public to rely only on verified information as the family mourns their loss.
Chesamisi Boys Student Suddenly Dies
Eugene Oundo Wekesa, a 17-year-old student at Chesamisi Boys Senior School, died on March 16, 2026.
According to reports, Eugene Wekesa became ill at school, and by the time his father attempted to take him to the hospital, he had already passed away.
Chesamisi Boys High School said that immediately after the student reported feeling unwell, the school took prompt and responsible action to attend to his condition and arrange urgent medical attention.

On Tuesday, the parents of Chesamisi Boys reported to the school demanding answers following the death of Eugene.
The school principal, Protus Ndombi, in a brief phone interview, expressed condolences to the family of the student.
Eugene’s body remains at Lugulu Mission Hospital morgue, with burial scheduled for Friday in Kamukuywa, Kimilili Sub-County.
