Parts of Kenya are expected to receive rainfall over the next five days, as the Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) forecasts showers in 29 counties.

In its latest outlook, several regions will receive light to moderate rainfall, while others are likely to experience cloudy, cold and windy conditions.

The weather agency has also issued a warning over strong southerly to southeasterly winds expected in parts of northern, eastern and coastal Kenya.

According to the forecast, wind speeds exceeding 25 knots, equivalent to 12.5 metres per second, are likely in several counties during the period under review.

29 Counties Expected to Receive Rainfall

According to Kenya Met’s five-day forecast, rainfall is expected in parts of Kericho, Kakamega, Nandi, Kisumu, Vihiga, Baringo, Bomet, Homa Bay, Nakuru, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Uasin Gishu, Trans Nzoia, Nyandarua, Murang’a, Kiambu, Nairobi, Embu, Meru, Nyeri, Taita Taveta, Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu and Kilifi counties.

The forecast covers several regions, including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of the Rift Valley, Central Kenya and sections of the Coast.

Residents in these areas are expected to experience periods of showers, particularly in the afternoon and at night, with some locations likely to record moderate rainfall episodes.

In the Central Highlands, counties such as Nyandarua, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Embu and Meru are expected to experience a mix of sunny intervals, cloudy conditions and occasional rainfall. Similar conditions are forecast for parts of Nairobi and neighbouring counties, with temperatures fluctuating throughout the forecast period.

Western Kenya and the Lake Victoria Basin, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira, are also expected to receive rainfall. Kenya Met has indicated that these regions may experience showers alongside intervals of sunshine and partly cloudy conditions.

Nairobi, Central Kenya to Experience Cold and Cloudy Conditions

Kenya Met has forecast intermittent cold and cloudy conditions in several parts of the country. Areas likely to experience chilly mornings and overcast skies include Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Murang’a and parts of the surrounding Central Kenya region.

The forecast suggests temperatures in the highland counties will vary, with some areas recording minimums as low as 5 degrees Celsius, particularly in elevated regions such as Nyandarua and Nyeri.
