The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has extended the deadline for a nationwide data update targeting registered teachers who are not currently employed by the Commission.
In a notice on March 31, TSC announced that affected teachers now have until midnight on April 7, 2026, to submit their details through the Commission’s online platform.
“The Commission hereby extends the deadline for submission of the required data to midnight of 7th April,2026,” read part of the statement.
According to TSC, the ongoing update aims to enhance the accuracy of its records to support effective workforce planning, including determining the supply and demand of qualified teachers across the country.
TSC Extends Deadline for Unemployed Teachers’ Data Update to April 7
Teachers participating in the exercise are required to provide updated information on their academic qualifications, subject specialization or combination, and level of training.
The Commission assured teachers that all submitted data will be processed and stored in compliance with the Data Protection Act and its privacy guidelines.
Earlier, the teachers’ body had notified unemployed teachers to urgently update their records by March 16, 2026.
Teachers seeking to update their records have been advised by the Teachers Service Commission to complete the process through its official online portal.

- Log in using their registration number and credentials.
- Navigate to the profile update or record maintenance section.
- Fill in all required details, including personal, professional, and contact information.
- Upload any necessary supporting documents.
- Review the information for accuracy before submitting ahead of the deadline.
TSC clarified that the ongoing exercise is strictly for data updating purposes and does not constitute a recruitment process.

TSC On Promotion of Teachers
The data update for teachers occurs when the government plans to employ additional teachers nationwide.
On February 19, the commission revealed plans to recruit 16,000 additional teachers for Junior and Senior Schools in the coming financial year at a cost of KSh1.9 billion, as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the teacher shortage that currently stands at about 116,000 nationwide.
TSC presented a budget proposal totaling KSh422.9 billion, with allocations including KSh2 billion for teacher promotions, KSh1.5 billion for retooling educators in new learning areas, and KSh7.2 billion to convert 20,000 interns into permanent and pensionable staff.
According to the Budget Policy Statement, the Commission’s total proposed allocation for the 2026/27 financial year is KSh422.96 billion, including the recruitment of 16,000 new teachers and the conversion of 20,000 interns to permanent and pensionable terms.
