How to Pay for DStv Packages & What You Need to Know About Subscriptions

Payment is straightforward with options like M-Pesa, banking apps, and more.

DStv (Digital Satellite Television) is a popular satellite TV service owned by South African Company MultiChoice, providing a wide range of channels and entertainment options for customers across sub-Saharan Africa.

With DStv, viewers can access a variety of content, including movies, sports, news, documentaries, and more.

This article provides an overview of DStv in Kenya, including the requirements to get started, the different packages available, installation, and payment methods.

First, before kickstarting your journey with the streaming service there are some details you need to put in mind before enjoying DStv.

Subscription: Decide on a suitable streaming package that suits your entertainment needs and budget. The package determines the channels and services available to you.

Decoder: Choose a decoder, such as the DStv Explora, which offers advanced features like recording, pausing, and rewinding live TV, or the more affordable HD decoder.

Installation: After choosing your package and decoder, you will need to arrange for installation. DStv provides an easy online tool to find the nearest dealer or installer.

Payments: Once installed, you must pay for your monthly subscription to keep enjoying. DStv offers various payment methods, including M-Pesa and online payments.

Packages

The streaming service offers several subscription packages with varying content and costs. Here’s a breakdown of the available packages in Kenya with the latest prices which took effect on April 1, 2024.

Premium (Ksh10,500): With over 175 channels, including 38 HD channels, this package includes Showmax at no extra cost, access to live TV and on-demand content via the DStv app, and the ability to rent movies on BoxOffice for Ksh250. It also allows Extra View, enabling you to link multiple decoders.

Compact Plus (Ksh6,500): This package includes over 155 channels with 30 HD channels. It features football favorites like the UEFA Champions League (UCL), Premier League, LaLiga, and Serie A, American sports, UFC, local content, and award-winning documentaries.

Compact (Ksh3,700): With over 135 channels and 22 HD channels, Compact offers thrilling Premier League football, WWE, local entertainment, and kids’ edutainment channels.

Family (Ksh2,000): This package offers over 120 channels with 10 HD channels, including LaLiga and Serie A fixtures, popular TNT Africa movies, kids’ channels, and local and international drama and music content.

Access (Ksh1,300): Offering over 95 channels with 7 HD channels, this package provides selected Serie A, EPL, and LaLiga fixtures, local shows, and kids’ programming.

Lite (Ksh700): The Lite package includes over 67 channels with 2 HD channels, offering local content, drama series, and soaps.

How to Pay for DStv

The streaming service has simplified the payment process to ensure uninterrupted viewing. Here are the most common payment methods:

Paying via M-Pesa

M-Pesa is a popular mobile payment method in Kenya. To pay for your subscription via M-Pesa, follow these steps:

  1. Open the SIM Toolkit on your phone and select “M-PESA.”
  2. Choose “Lipa Na M-Pesa,” then select “Pay Bill.”
  3. Enter the DStv pay bill number, 444900.
  4. Input your DStv smartcard number as the account number.
  5. Enter the amount corresponding to your package.
  6. Provide your M-PESA PIN to authenticate the payment.
  7. Double-check your details and press OK to complete the transaction.
  8. Wait for a confirmation message from M-Pesa to ensure the payment was successful.

Paying via Banking Apps

If you prefer to use a banking app, you can pay using the KCB app or Barclays Kenya app.

Using the KCB App:

  1. Select “Transact Icon” > “Pay Bill” > “Other Billers.”
  2. Choose “DSTV” and enter your customer number.
  3. Enter the amount to pay, then submit.
  4. Confirm the payment, and you will receive a confirmation message.

Using the Barclays Kenya App:

  1. Tap “Login” to access your account.
  2. Navigate to “Transfers” and select “Pay Bill.”
  3. Choose “Existing Payee” or “New Payee.”
  4. Enter the DStv account/reference number and the amount to pay.
  5. Confirm the payment, and you may need to enter a one-time passcode (OTP).
  6. Once completed, the payment will be reflected in your account.

Using the Equity Bank’s Eazzy App:

  1. Tap the plus (+) icon and select “Eazzy Pay.”
  2. Choose “Paybill” and enter the Paybill number 6800009.
  3. Input your DStv bill number, then enter the amount to pay.
  4. Click on “Pay” to proceed.
  5. Once complete, you will receive a confirmation SMS.

Additional Information

Besides M-Pesa and banking apps, there are other payment methods for the streaming service. These include debit cards, MyDStv App, QR codes, USSD, payment links, and internet payment or by physically visiting MultiChoice’s walk-in centers or your nearest store.

When paying for your streaming subscription, ensure your decoder is on to avoid errors.

The streaming platform offers a variety of entertainment packages and convenient payment options for customers in Kenya.

With packages ranging from Lite to Premium, there’s something for everyone. Payment is straightforward with options like M-Pesa, banking apps, and more.
