Dr. James Nyikal is a Kenyan politician and a medical doctor currently serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Seme Constituency.

He was the first MP of the Constituency established after the 2010 Constitution.
In the 11th Parliament, Nyikal served as a member of the departmental committee on health and budget & appropriation committee.

Dr. James Nyikal Education Background
Dr. Nyikal started his education journey at Ngere Primary School where he sat for his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) in 1966.

In 1966, he joined Onjiko Secondary School for his ‘O’ Levels before proceeding to Nakuru High School for his ‘A’ Level.
Dr. Nyikal joined the University of Nairobi (UON) in 1972 for his undergraduate degree in medicine and surgery which he completed in 1977.
He went on to pursue his master’s in medicine, Pediatrics and Child Health from 1981 to 1994.
He studied Fellowship in Newborn Medicine at Monash Medical Centre from 1990 to 1992.
Career & Politics
In 1990, Dr. Nyikal got his first job at Newborn Emergency Transport Services and Neonatal Intensive Care as a Fellow and Registrar.
He lectured at the University of Nairobi in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health between 1992 and 1996.
He served as the Chairperson of the Kenya Medical Association from 1997 to 2003.
From 2003 to April 2008, Dr Nyikal served as the Director of Medical Service in the ministry of Health.
During this period, he was a member of the executive board of the World Health Organization (WHO).
He held a brief stint as Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation in 2008 before moving to the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development in October the same year.
Dr. Nyikal joined politics in 2013 and successfully became Seme MP.
He has since held the position for two consecutive terms and, he is currently on his third term after winning the 2022 general elections.
