A storm is brewing inside the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance coalition over the Kitui governorship race.
This is after outgoing Kitui governor Charity Ngilu publicly backed former Kitui senator David Musila to succeed her.
Ngilu’s move goes against Azimio leader Raila Odinga’s decision to back Julius Malombe, the Wiper party candidate.
Musila is running on a jubilee party ticket.
Speaking in Mwingi over the weekend, Ngilu asked locals to support one of their own to be the next county boss.
Musila hails from Mwingi.
The outgoing governor said it was time for the people of Mwingi to govern the county.
She said that she will support Musila by all means to ensure that he succeeds her as the county boss.
The move by Ngilu has sparked outrage among Wiper supporters.
Ukambani professional from Kitui county now want Azimio leader Raila Odinga to reign in on Ngilu and ask her to support Malombe
The professional say Ngilu’s move is a slap in the face of Odinga who had publicly endorsed the governorship of Malombe
Ngilu dropped out of the race to defend her seat as part of an internal deal within the Azimio coalition
The deal was aimed at consolidating the Ukambani voting bloc in favour of the Azimio coalition candidates.
At the same time Ngilu dismissed calls for six-piece voting from the Kalonzo Musyoka led Wiper party.
