Moses Wachira Kariuki was a 20-year-old Commercial Pilot Trainee at the Kenya School of Flying who died in an aircraft accident in Kajiado County on September 18, 2026.
Kariuki was born on June 5, 2006, and was from Wahundura Village in Mathioya Sub-County, Murang’a County.
He was the son of Hezron Kariuki Thiong’o, a former Kenya Revenue Authority officer based in Embu, and Leah Muthoni Kariuki.
Moses Wachira was one of five siblings. His siblings were Grace Waigumo, Zennus Mwendwa, Brian Thiong’o, and Fraciah Wairimu Thiong’o.
His family described him as a cherished son and loving uncle. He was survived by his parents, four siblings, and four nieces and nephews.
Moses Wachira Education and Aviation Career
Moses Wachira enrolled at the Kenya School of Flying to train as a commercial pilot. His training was part of his pursuit of an aviation career.
At the time of his death, he was still undergoing pilot training. The aircraft involved in the September 18 accident was a small training aircraft operated by the Kenya School of Flying.

How the Kajiado Aircraft Crash Unfolded
The accident occurred on Friday, September 18, 2026, in Kipeto, Kajiado West, while the Kenya School of Flying operated the aircraft.
The aircraft reportedly crashed near the Windpower plant, with initial findings placing the incident in the hilly terrain of Kipeto.

Securex Agencies Ltd reported the incident at 12:38 p.m., initially noting that details about the aircraft type, occupants, and cause of the crash had not been confirmed.
Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maureen Kuto confirmed the accident as rescue personnel and members of the public responded to the scene.
The two people on board were found dead at the crash site. They were later identified as 20-year-old pilot trainee Moses Wachira Kariuki and flight instructor Alex Oluka.
Photos from the scene showed wreckage scattered across the crash site, including sections of the aircraft’s fuselage that had been torn apart.
