Idris Salim, a comedian based in Mombasa, was recently seen in distressing photos on social media, showing him injured and lying half-naked on a hospital bed with blood on the floor.
The comedian, Mama Fatma, posted a message requesting divine assistance during this grim time, leaving his fans curious about his condition’s circumstances.
In a recent phone interview with Nairobi News, Idris recounted the gruesome attack that led to his hospitalization. He revealed that he was assaulted by a group of people while returning home from the mosque at 5 a.m. on Thursday. According to Idris, his attackers aimed to target his private parts with their blows.

After the attack, he was found bleeding and was immediately taken to the hospital by his neighbors. Although he has no idea why he was attacked, he suspects it could be linked to his on-stage character, Mama Fatma.
Idris’s on-stage persona has always sparked a debate about his sexual orientation since his debut in the creative arts industry. He enrolled in the Mombasa Academy of Arts to study acting and later auditioned at the Little Theatre Club and Kenya National Theatre in Nairobi, where he landed several roles. However, his breakthrough came when he created the character of Mama Fatma, a nosy, straight-talking Swahili woman.
As a result of his strong Muslim background, some individuals have expressed disapproval of Mama Fatma’s character, and Idris has received harsh criticism from a section of netizens. Despite everything, he has never regretted his decision to be a content creator. He wants his fans to know that he is recovering in the hospital and is not dead, contrary to some rumors on various blogs.
