Kenyan comedian and content creator Edwin Butita also Known as Eddie Butita had a remarkable experience during President William Ruto’s State Visit to the United States.
He was part of the Kenyan delegation that toured the iconic Tyler Perry studio in Atlanta, Georgia. During the visit, he had the chance to interact with renowned media personality Steve Harvey.
Eddie Butita’s love for acting began at an early age in Butere High School where he auditioned in musical festivals and heavily participated in drama by writing and performing.
He later pursued a course in graphic design, which added to his creative abilities and provided him with a solid foundation in the Entertainment Industry.
Life at Churchill show
Butita’s breakthrough however came when he joined the popular Kenyan comedy show, Churchill Show.
However, behind the scenes, he faced challenges and hidden realities that came with performing on such a big stage.
In a past interview, Butita shared insights about the hurdles faced by comedians on the Churchill Show including the struggle for screentime on the main Churchill Show that used to air on Sundays. In what has remained a controversy, the SPM Buzz founder has been among comedians vocal about what they called unfair treatment during the show’s audition.
Despite the challenges, his talent and resilience allowed him to thrive and entertain audiences across Kenya.
He has also appeared in other comedy shows like Night of Thousand Laughs, Kenya Kona Comedy, crazy Monday, Comedy Night, Kenya Biggest Laugh and the Hot Seat

At 23, he was entrusted with the position of Creative Director at Churchill which paved the way for his career in the entertainment industry.
His association with mentor Daniel Ndambuki led to performances in events such as The Laugh Festival, Kid’s Festival, and Churchill Raw.
Before gaining fame, he ventured into entrepreneurship to complement his successful comedy career.
He launched his own media company called SPM Buzz in April 2021. spmbuzz.com, a digital platform that has revolutionized the entertainment industry by empowering and nurturing talented individuals who want to live and earn from their creative ideas.
Butita Life in Kariobangi
Despite not knowing anyone in the entertainment industry and struggling to raise bus fare at times, the talented comedian who grew up in Kariobangi was driven by his desire to become a great comedian, performer, writer, and director.
“Kariobangi!! Thirteen years ago, I left this place to explore the world of art. I didn’t know anyone in the entertainment industry, I didn’t even have bus fare, but driven by my desire to become a great comedian, performer, writer, and director, I embarked on a journey. Instead of playing the victim and blaming my birthplace, I seized the opportunity to write my own story,” he noted after his return to the Kariobangi slums where he grew up.

He further added how glad he is his dreams became a reality “Today, as I drove around Kariobangi, memories flooded back of the neighborhood that shaped me.
“I now speak on global platforms, advise governments, perform on international stages, and write the most watched shows, all while impacting and creating opportunities for more than 50 talents, in the country.”
In May 2024, Butita had a dream come true when he met American actor and TV host Steve Harvey during a luncheon at Tyler Perry’s studio in the US.
The encounter was a result of his longstanding desire to meet Steve Harvey, which he had nurtured for over 14 years.
During their conversation, they discussed ways to improve showbiz in Kenya, emphasizing talent development and business success.
