Phelix Odiwour popularly known as Jalang’o, was a household name in the media industry before joining politics and winning the Lang’ata parliamentary seat in 2022 elections.
Jalas rose from a little-known comedian to a much-sort-after brand, with leading media houses in the country scrambling for his signature.
His journey is a display of a spirited, ambitious fellow and, as Caroline Mutoko once said, a man ‘hungry for success’.
Moreover, he shot to fame and earned a six-digit salary, a dream for most Kenyans, without even a university degree – just talent.
In this article we focus on media personalities that worked with the comedian-cum politician as co-hosts on various radio stations.
Caroline Mutoko and Jalang’o on Kiss FM
Jalang’o worked with Caroline Mutoko on the Big Breakfast on Kiss FM, where the MP launched his enviable journey in the media.
Furthermore, he revealed that it was Caroline Mutoko who made him buy his first car.
“She had asked me how I get to work. I told her I used matatu’s so she asked me to get a loan from the finance guy so that I could get a car. They gave me Ksh300,000 and I bought a car for Ksh250,000 at the Sarit Centre. I then went to Park Road and pimped it.
I almost drove that car with my legs outside until I realized people with big cars are incredibly quiet. She is one woman I respect even today when I have a problem, she is the first person I talk to,” Jalango’ narrated in a previous interview.
Jeff Koinange and Jalas on Hot96
Jeff Koinange and Jalang’o worked together at Hot 96 doing a breakfast show.
After leaving Royal Media Services, which owns Hot96, Jalas penned a moving message to his former co-host.
In his lengthy post on Instagram, Jalas noted that Jeff made him a better man and helped him “shine among the elite!”
“No single day did you ever look down on me even when you knew that our lives were far apart and so different, but you held my hands and we created something beautiful,” he said, adding that he is proud of the “monster show” that they created.

Alex Mwakideu on Radio Maisha and Milele
Alex Mwakideu worked with Jalas when he was popularly known as ‘Mzee Jalas’ at Radio Maisha and Milele FM before Jalang’o went back to Kiss FM.
At one time Mwakideu shared details of his relationship with former co-host Jalang’o.
According to the celebrity king of the airwaves, Jalas was more than a work acquaintance.
“That one is my friend…not only on Radio, but we are also even going to meet right now. We are building a house together,” he said in an interview on Churchill show.
Alex added that their parents were also aware of their close relationship, and they visited each other’s homes.
At one time they hinted about a reunion on an online show to explore building houses.

Kamene Goro on KISS FM
The youthful lawmaker worked with Kamene Goro when he made a comeback to Lions Places along Waiyaki Way, hosting the morning show.
Jalang’o was on KISS FM until he ventured into politics, declaring his interest in the Lang’ata parliamentary seat and went ahead to win it in August 2022.
He penned a sweet message to Kamene Goro when she was dismissed from KISS FM saying he considers her as family.
“I know today there is a lot going through your head. Too many emotions, love, and too many questions! Don’t worry! I got you! You will forever have a big brother in me!
As you start your new journey just know God got you! Thank you for the good job, thank you for your big heart! Thank you that you are you! Kamene Goro! KISS 100 Kenya thank you for the opportunity you gave me to experience this amazing soul! New chapters, new beginning!”
