Kenyans and Ugandans online have reacted to a video posted by media company NRG Radio on January 22, 2024, showing members of staff surprising a senior colleague at the company’s offices in Uganda.
The station’s staff surprised Kevin Bellwood, NRG Group’s Head of Broadcast, with a cake to celebrate his birthday.
In the video seen by The Kenya Times, the lady who delivered the cake to Kevin is seen dancing for the birthday boy.
The lady, dressed in a white crop top and black jeans, went on to display dance moves before the birthday boy, and at some point, even performing a brief lap dance.
Kevin Bellwood is seen happy and amazed by the surprise as other members of the station took to their phones to record the surprise moment.
After the surprise, the team went on to sing for an overjoyed Kevin as one of the members explained the story behind the surprise before Kevin went on to cut the cake.
NRG shared the surprise video on their social media account, further wishing the head of broadcast a happy birthday.

“It’s been a bright Monday for the head of Broadcasting. Happy birthday to you Kevin Bellwood to another year of sharing great vibes together,” posted NRG.
NRG Video Sparks Debate
The surprise video has since sparked mixed reactions from a section of Ugandans and Kenyans online.
A section of social media users questioned the manner in which the surprise was conducted while others defended it, saying it was completely okay.

Award winning Ugandan Journalist Culton Scovia Nakamya posted, “Men are victims of sexual harassment at workplaces, but many don’t know when they’re being harassed.”
Wondering who hired the lady to dance for the boss in the birthday surprise, she went on to ask, “Does Kevin Bellwood have a sexual harass policy in place at NRG Radio Uganda?”
However, another user strongly came out to get back at Nakamya noting that she chose to see the negative side of the surprise.
“You literally see negativity in everything. The man is enjoying the entertainment, but you are bothered.
“He doesn’t need to be saved from anything get busy,” said Reagan.

On the other hand, a Ugandan opposition leader reacted to the video noting that she would want to meet the NRG head of broadcast.
“I need to meet Mr Kevin Bellwood to pick his position on workplace etiquette and ethics,” posted former opposition leader Winnie Kiiza.
Mixed Reactions
Olingalo Ore also reacted, “Definitely something is going on in that station if that dancer is a staff but if she is a hired entertainer for that moment then no problem.”
However, a section of users online also came out to defend NRG Radio noting that it was okay in the manner it was conducted.
Eric Njiru, a renowned Kenyan journalist noted, “Free your mind. It’s a boardroom not a newsroom and a workplace for Gen z can’t be like for old people who watched Ronaldinho play.”
Echoing the sentiments, Stefan Adogo noted, “Why take Panadol for another person’s headache? Let people be.”
