Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua on Tuesday, September 19, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Dominican Republic while on official visit in the United States.
President William Ruto witnessed the signing of the Political Consultations and a Framework Cooperation Agreement that seeks to open doors for Kenyans.
The agreement involved scholarships, internships, and exchange programs in education sectors between the two countries.
“In the presence of President Dr William Ruto and Dominican Republic President Luis Abinader today, together with my counterpart from The Dominican Republic, Hon. Roberto Alvarez, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations and a Framework Cooperation Agreement,” stated the CS.

Moreover, the signing of the memorandum aims at strengthening bilateral relations and engaging on issues of mutual interest.
Additionally, the Framework for Cooperation provides a close interaction between Kenya and The Dominican Republic.
Areas of interaction in matters of Education
- Internship for professional training.
- Exchanges of specialists, researchers, and university professors
- Joint institutional strengthening programs
- Granting of scholarships for professional specialization studies and intermediate technical training studies.
The scholarship program will also help the students at such a time when they feel that the current funding model is not favorable to them.
Further, the internship program will help the students to familiarize themselves with the job market globally.

In Business, Mutua noted that it will cooperate with Switzerland to boost trade and investment.

President Ruto is in the United States where he is attending The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and meeting with world leaders.
