Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has said being in prison is better than living out here due to the high cost of living.
According to the Embakasi East MP, prisoners are better off as they get free food within and have better security.
“Hii Kenya kuishi jela ni tamu na nzuri kuliko hapa nje sahi. Kwa sababu jela kuna unga ya bure, hapa nje unga iko juu. Jela kuna maximum security, hapa nje si mnashikwa ovyo ovyo. Owino said.
Loosely translates to; In Kenya, being in prison is sweeter and better compared to out here. Because in prison there is free maize flour, out here the cost of maize flour is high. In prison there is maximum security, out here you are arrested haphazardly.
While addressing Azimio supporters on Sunday, February 26 in Kitale, Babu Owino noted that living outside prison feels more like being imprisoned.
“Kenyans, should we stay out here or in prison, because out here we are more imprisoned,” he added.

Moreover, the legislator recalled Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks that Kenyans will eat rice with beef, saying that right now it is even hard to afford vegetables.
Owino further called on Kenyans to come out with their cooking pans, plates, and spoons as they plot to take their protests to Statehouse.
According to Babu Owino, removing taxes on cooking gas is not useful if people have nothing to cook.
“Can you eat gas? Even if you are given free gas without food, will you eat the gas? ” Babu Owino posed.
Nonetheless, the Embakasi MP called for the reduction in costs of maize flour, sugar and other household commodities.
He added that reducing the costs of foodstuffs is better than gas as Kenyans can still cook with firewood and charcoal as long as they can afford food.
