Bishop Forces Ruto Ally to Cut Short Speach After Attacking Uhuru

President William Ruto’s allies appear to be on a mission to counter the influence of former Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua in the Mt. Kenya region. A bishop stopped Laikipia East Member of Parliament (MP) Mwangi Kiunjuri from criticizing the administrations of Late President Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta who come from the region.

The incident occurred during the burial of Deborah Wanjiru Mariru in Ng’arua, Laikipia County on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

In a video obtained by The Kenya Times, Kiunjuri criticizes Uhuru, claiming there was insecurity in the region during his tenure.

He further asserts that Ruto has managed to stabilize security in the area, despite not being from the region.

“Uhuru was a Kikuyu, and we experienced insecurity. Now our President by the name Samoei Ruto, not Maina, Mwangi or Kimani and now we have peace in Laikipia,” Kiunjuri said.

Kiunjuri urged the residents to be grateful for Ruto’s administration.

He argued that while events will unfold, there are always two sides to every situation.

“Therefore, when we go out and make a public statement, we should remember to say thank you. We will continue giving our testimony as residents of Laikipia,” he said.

Bishop Stops Kiunjuri

At this point, the bishop, who was sitting behind Kiunjuri at the podium, stood up and interrupted his speech.

Kiunjuri initially thought the bishop stood because he had taken too long, but he clarified that he didn’t want to cut him short.

The bishop asked the MP to stop criticizing the former presidents and instead focus on praising Ruto and his regime.

He explained that the two former heads of state were not present to defend themselves or their governments.

Therefore, he urged Kiunjuri to highlight the achievements of the Kenya Kwanza regime and stop pointing out the mistakes of the Kibaki and Uhuru regimes.

“I want to take this opportunity as a bishop to request that the MP to stop talking about Kibaki and Uhuru because they are not here to defend themselves,” the bishop said respectfully.

“Just praise the current government and leave the previous regimes because they are not here to defend their governments.”
