Homabay Member of Parliament George Peter Kaluma has disagreed with the statement made by Orange Democratic Movement party (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna dissociating the party with members if nominated to positions in the Kenya Kwanza government.
In a statement on his X account Kaluma insinuated that a press statement dated 23rd July did not have the correct details of the party’s resolution in their previous meeting.
He further asked Edwin Sifuna to give factual details of the party’s position to the public or have him sacked as the secretary general.
“This is not what the ODM party resolved in the last meeting. Please communicate the true Party position or we sack you with immediate effect,” Kaluma threatened.
Kaluma falls in the list of ODM party members who have insinuated a possible division in the decision to engage the government in a national dialogue.
During a parliamentary sitting, the Homabay legislator stated that ODM had resolved that Raila Odinga would send names to President William Ruto for nomination as Cabinet secretaries.
ODM to Disown Cabinet Nominees
“This is why we met as ODM and resolved that government of Kenya belongs to all of us, I’m saying this to clear some confusion I have seen circulating that if members of ODM are appointed to government they are going on their own,” Kaluma stated.
Further, he urged President William Ruto to reveal and approve names of individuals recommended by Raila.

Earlier, Sifuna in a statement had communicated that any ODM member who would agree to Ruto’s cabinet nomination, or any other position would not be backed by the party.
“As a Party, we wish to make it unequivocally clear that we are not in negotiations with the Ruto regime for any coalition or political arrangement,” read part of the statement.
“Some of our members have also fallen for the campaign of lies and misinterpreted our stance as a license to engage the Kenya Kwanza leadership and canvass for ministerial and/or other positions in the Ruto government.”
The Raila Odinga-led Party, at the same time issued demands that must be addressed by President Ruto before getting in a National Conversation with the government.

Some of the demands made by the ODM leader include the sacking of the Nairobi Police Commander, Adamson Bungei and compensation to the families of the victims of extra- judicial executions and persons injured by the state since last year.
The party, however, said that all along it has been clear that it was supporting a national conversation preceded by the creation of the necessary environment through the implementation of the conditions above.
ODM has maintained that it remains committed to its principles and the ongoing struggle for a better Kenya.
