Music Copyright Society of Kenya CEO Dr. Ezekiel Mutua has defended viral Mali Safi Chito hit song artist Milicent Jerotich, popularly known as Marakwet daughter.
The defense from Mutua comes following an uproar from a section of Kenyans online who called out the vocal artist over her latest videos.
Angry Kenyans criticized Milicent’s remarks, in which she harshly went after fans who were used to taunting her comment section on video streaming platform Tiktok.
In a video seen by The Kenya Times, the Mali Safi Chito hitmaker had first muted the comment section on her platform and went on to tell off the fans in a viral speech.
“You are used to using bad language on my comment section. You are used to spewing hate in my comment inbox come and do that now,” the singer said.
In response to the Kenyans trolling her, Dr Mutua jumped to her defense, asking people criticizing the artist to leave her alone.
In a statement, Mutua noted that he had viewed the clips and followed the comments, coming to the conclusion that the artist was provoked to act as she did.
“Too much ado about nothing on Mali Safi Chito. Leave the girl alone. She is living her moments of fame. Don’t rain on her parade!” he said.

Mutua went on to acknowledge that the artist may have spoken out of turn, even sounding arrogant and conceited.
He however noted that Milicent needs guidance and support rather than condemnation and malicious attacks or criticism.

“That’s not how to treat a young lady who is working hard to make a living out of her talent. You don’t slide into her wall to call her names or body shame her.
That’s unacceptable and I am glad she gave the critics a piece of her mind, the language and polemics notwithstanding!” added Mutua.
The MCSK boss further called out her critics noting that some of them were angry because they couldn’t stand an assertive woman who knows how to protect her space.
As such, Mutua noted that such people tend to bring outdated and primitive debates into everything one says, looking for fault where there’s none.

The former Kenya Films and Classifications Board (KFCB) CEO also offered guidance to the Mali Safi hitmaker.

He advised her to humble herself, take care of her brand and make sure she doesn’t let criticism distract her.
“You will never get to your destination if you keep engaging with critics. Take care of your brand. Be humble. Pray and let God give you the grace to silence your critics with results,” he said.
Jerotich burst into the scene after her hit song Mali Safi Chito dominated the airwaves in November 2023.
Further, the song became viral on streaming platforms such as TikTok and has since garnered over 7.5 million views on YouTube.
