Deputy President Righathi Gachagua has warned leaders who are reportedly plotting to impeach him.
Speaking in a rally on September 20 at the Marikiti Market in Nairobi, the DP said he was elected by Kenyans through a popular vote and that only the voters will remove him from office when the time comes.
“They’re threatening me that they will mobilize MPs to kick me out and install their puppet. They have given these MPs money to sell me fear,” said Gachagua.
“I was elected by Kenyans, and they are the ones to remove me from my seat when the time comes.”
The Deputy President was accompanied by the area MCA Hon Mwaniki Kwenya who also weighed in on the impeachment issue, asking the DP to remain firm and unbowed.
“No one should make you fear,” he stated.
DP Gachagua also gave the Marikiti market chairman an opportunity to address the people. The chairman affirmed to them that they will not move from Wakulima (Marikiti) Market to the Kangundo Road market as he promised them earlier.

“We have brought Gachagua to fight for our rights,” the chairman said.
The chairman of the Marikiti Market also passed his regards to Gachagua for honoring their request by asking the Governor of Nairobi County Johnson Sakaja to sit with them and listen to their grievances.
The Chairman requested Gachagua to be part of the conversation.
Gachagua’s impeachment Plan
The plot to impeach the Deputy President has been on the news headlines for a while. The move came about due to the allegations that he opposed the Finance Bill 2024 during a past cabinet meeting.
The move was rejected by Governor Mutahi Kahiga who spoke to the media defending Gachagua. Kahiga said that Kenyans instead need to applaud Gachagua now that the Bill was finally rejected.

“I want to say that we have heard, and we have seen efforts to bring an impeachment motion against the Deputy President of Kenya based on very weak claims,” Mutahi noted.
“They accused him of opposing the Finance Bill during a cabinet meeting.”
Moreover, the Nyeri Governor said Gachagua has a strong connection with the common Mwananchi than those plotting his impeachment. He called out the MPs pushing for the impeachment as he termed it an affront to the people of Mount Kenya.
