Gen Z youth have occupied Redeemed Gospel Church Buruburu in Nairobi as they demand justice for Jahenda.
The gathering took place as the church held its Sunday services, with the first service on October 4, 2026, livestreamed from the Buruburu congregation.
Pst. Erick Binges was featured as the speaker during the RGC first service.
The church later held its second service, also livestreamed, with Dr Ezekiel Mutua as the speaker, during which the number of the Gen Z attendees had grown.
As the youths occupied the church and livestreamed the events on various social media platforms, police officers were spotted around the church as the gathering continued.
Why Gen Z Youth Went to RGC Buruburu
The gathering follows the circulation of a video showing Jahenda being bullied and humiliated by a group of young women.
Footage shared online spread widely across social media, prompting calls for accountability and the emergence of the #JusticeForJahenda campaign.
In the video, the victim is seen cornered in the bathroom as the perpetrators issue her orders, including running and jogging on the spot in a public restroom.
Further, one of the perpetrators is seen holding Jahenda’s neck and threatening to unalive her and give her another beating if she does not follow the instructions given.
Other ladies are seen laughing during the recording of the incident.
According to preliminary reports, one of the perpetrators was discovered to be among the members of the church. Others alleged that the pastor in the RGC Buruburu was the father of the perpetrator, leading to members of the public raising concerns about what is taught in the church.
Following the discovery of the link between the church and one of the bullies, online mobilizers called for people to join in unison to demand justice for the victim on October 4 at the church.
However, the church did not confirm the family ties of the perpetrator to the pastor, but rather clarified that one of the ladies in the video fellowships in the church.

Church Responds to Viral Video
Redeemed Gospel Church Buruburu issued a statement on Saturday, October 3, addressing the incident.
It condemned bullying, humiliation, intimidation, harassment, and violence, saying such conduct does not represent the values of the church.
The church also stressed that an individual’s association with the congregation should not excuse or shield them from accountability for their actions.
“As a church, we are deeply saddened and disturbed by what has been portrayed in the video.
We unequivocally condemn bullying, humiliation, intimidation, harassment, violence, and any conduct intended to demean, threaten, or cause harm to another person. Such conduct is contrary to the values of dignity, love, compassion, respect and accountability that we teach and uphold as a church,” part of the statement read.
Pastor Felix Kavoi also clarified that the girl linked to the bullying incident is not his daughter, describing the situation as “the work of the devil.”
In addition, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua dismissed the claims linking the girl to the pastor, urging Kenyans to avoid spreading unverified information while condemning the bullying incident.z
Police Presence at Church
Police officers, some uniformed and others in civilian clothes, surrounded the church as the second service continued.
Reports circulating from the scene have also claimed that some protesters were arrested. At the same time, other accounts alleged that several people were locked inside a store within the church compound and were seeking assistance.

Public Reactions Divided Over Gen Z Action
The gathering has divided opinion online, with some Kenyans questioning the decision to hold the protest inside or around a church during Sunday services.
One commenter on the church’s Facebook livestream argued that Gen Z should show respect to the place of worship
Another questioned the reported link between the church and the young woman at the center of the controversy.
In addition, some warned that some of the protesters could face legal action over their conduct.
“This is a place of worship. The girl you are saying belongs to the pastor — we don’t know her. Tomorrow someone will be in court due to obstruction,’ the user commented.
Other users criticized the Gen Z protesters, calling their actions immature and arguing the dispute should not be taken into a place of worship.
Some also expressed sympathy for the young women accused in the incident, disputing the wider condemnation directed at them and saying the protesters had gone too far in their response.
