Tensions flared at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital in Nandi County as angry residents and human rights activists staged a protest over the mysterious disappearance of a four-day-old baby boy, Blessings Jepkirui.
The infant reportedly vanished from the hospital’s maternity ward three weeks ago, sparking outrage and growing demands for accountability.
Demonstrators, including the child’s family and concerned locals, stormed the hospital compound, insisting the administration “come clean” about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Holding placards and chanting slogans, they vowed to continue protesting until answers are provided and justice is served.
“This is not just a family’s tragedy, it’s a community’s nightmare,” one activist told reporters. “We will not rest until we know what happened to Baby Blessings.”
Baby Disappearing from Kapsabet Hospital
The newborn was delivered at the hospital to a teenage mother and disappeared on the very day the mother was set to be discharged.

According to the baby’s grandmother, Chepkoech Singok, the unsettling events began when a man whom she believed to be a doctor, gave her specific instructions.
“He directed us to the children’s clinic,” she said. “While we were heading there, I noticed a woman trailing behind me. Then the man said, ‘Hand the baby over to this woman.’
Although she initially hesitated, the man kept insisting, assuring her it was just to get some medication.
Confused and under pressure, Chepkoech reluctantly agreed. The group began walking toward the hospital’s exit.
“When we reached the gate where the security guard was, the man asked if I knew where to pick up the medicine. I told him to write it down, which he did, then pointed me in the direction. I went to collect it, but when I returned, the baby was gone,” she recalled tearfully. “My grandchild has been taken.”
County Government Demand Answers
Nandi Member of County Assembly Milka Chumba is demanding answers following the reported theft of a 4-day-old infant.

Chumba has called for the questioning of a social worker and the infant’s grandmother in connection with the incident.
“There is something fishy going on there,” Chumba said. “The child is around and will be found not so far.”
Nandi County Executive Committee (CEC) member Freddie Kiptum also addressed, pledging full cooperation with law enforcement.
“Let’s make sure we clean the menace in this hospital, from the nurse in charge, to the social worker, to the security,” Kiptum said. “No one is above the law.”
Police have arrested six suspects in connection with the disappearance and have called on the public to assist with the ongoing investigation.
