Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party has applauded President William Ruto‘s bold move to abolish visa requirements for all foreign nationals from January 2024.
In a statement, PAA expressed support for the announcement made by Ruto during the Jamhuri Day celebrations.
PAA, which is affiliated to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, said the move marks a significant stride towards fostering international collaboration and economic growth in Kenya.
“As a responsible coalition member of the Kenya Kwanza government led by President Ruto, we believe this visionary move will have profound positive effects, particularly in the coastal region of Kenya,” read the statement in parts.
Visa policy to Boost in Tourism & Trade
Further, the party highlighted several ways in which Kenya will benefit from Ruto’s decision.
To begin with, PAA said the move will increase the number of tourists visiting Kenya’s sandy beaches at the coast, diverse flora and fauna, game parks, cultural heritage and scenic landscapes.
“By abolishing visa requirements, we anticipate a surge in international tourist arrivals, leading to increased economic activity and job opportunities within the hospitality and tourism sectors,” said Lucas Maitha, PAA’s Secretary General.
Also, the removal of visa restrictions will undoubtedly enhance trade relations between Kenyan businesses and their international counterparts.
The party explained that this will stimulate economic growth by facilitating easier access to international markets, encouraging exports, and promoting the exchange of goods and services.

Woo Investors to Kenya
Additionally, PAA reasoned that a visa-free environment will foster an investor friendly atmosphere, attracting foreign investors to explore opportunities in the coastal region.
“This influx of foreign capital will contribute to infrastructure development, create employment, and ultimately spur economic development,” added PAA.
Cultural Exchange
Notably, the party said the lifting of visa requirements will encourage cultural exchange and collaboration between Kenyan communities and international visitors.
Consequently, this will enrich the local experience, contribute to global understanding and unity.
“Abolishing visa requirements serves as a diplomatic gesture that enhances Kenya’s reputation on the global stage. It fosters goodwill, strengthens diplomatic ties, and positions Kenya as a progressive and open nation ready to engage with the international community,” Maitha stated.
Finally, PAA said the move will not only elevate the coastal region’s economic standing but also contribute to the overall prosperity of Kenya.
In his statement on Jamhuri Day, Ruto said the country would be visa-free from 2024.
“It is with great pleasure as President of this extraordinary country to make a historic announcement of the decision of the government of Kenya beginning January 2024, Kenya will be a visa free country.
“It shall be no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the world to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come from Kenya,” Ruto announced.
