Huldah Momanyi, a Kenyan-born politician from Kisii, has won the Minnesota primary election, advancing to the November 3 general election for the State Representative seat in the United States.
In a statement on August 12, Huldah Momanyi announced the victory, thanking voters, volunteers, supporters, donors, friends, and family who supported her campaign.
She said the primary victory was achieved collectively with her supporters and pledged to continue the campaign ahead of the November election.
“From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! This victory belongs to every voter, volunteer, supporter, donor, friend, and family member who believed in our vision and stood with us. I am deeply humbled and honored by your trust. We won this primary together—and together, we move forward! Onward to November,” she said
Who is Huldah Momanyi in the US Politics
Huldah Momanyi Hiltsley is seeking to represent District 38A in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
She is a member of Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party, the state’s Democratic Party.
Huldah Momanyi was elected in the 2024 general election to represent Minnesota House District 38A, defeating Republican candidate Brad Olson.
The Minnesota Legislative Reference Library lists her party affiliation as Democratic-Farmer-Labor for her House term.

Family Life and Educational Background
Hiltsley is the daughter of Philip Momanyi and Tabitha Momanyi, Kenyan immigrants from Nyamira County. She grew up with two siblings in Kenya before the family relocated to the United States.

Her father moved to the US first, followed by her mother in 1992. In 1995, Huldah and her two siblings joined their parents in Minnesota when she was about nine years old.
Huldah is married to Bart Hiltsley, and they have two children, Jaydah Rae and Jordan Philip. The family lives in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
Huldah Momanyi-Hiltsley began her early education in Kenya, attending Nyambaria Primary School, with some accounts also referencing Kisii Primary School. She moved to the United States at the age of nine.
She later attended Robbinsdale Cooper High School in New Hope, Minnesota, graduating with the Class of 2004.
Momanyi-Hiltsley earned three bachelor’s degrees from Bethel University in International Business, International Relations, and Reconciliation Studies.
She also pursued postgraduate studies at Bethel University, earning an MBA in Global Business Management.
Career Life
Huldah Momanyi built her professional career in corporate compliance, data privacy, and data protection in Minnesota’s Twin Cities before entering elected politics.

She also held community leadership roles, including serving as the first elected female president of Mwanyagetinge, a Kisii-based cultural and community organization.
Her work has included community organizing, women’s empowerment, and youth mentorship.
In 2022, she ran unsuccessfully for the Minnesota State Senate in District 38 as a DFL candidate.
In 2024, she won the DFL primary and general election for Minnesota House District 38A, defeating Republican candidate Brad Olson.
Her election made her the first Kenyan-born person elected to a US state legislature. She serves in the Minnesota House, with her policy interests including economic opportunity, education, public safety, and support for immigrant and minority communities.
