Hundreds of Graduates Stranded as Govt Agency Cancels Internship

The Government has cancelled a Graduate Trainee Program from one of its parastatals which was set to commence in the coming weeks. The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) on Tuesday, October 22 cancelled the Graduate Trainee Program which was advertised on August 2.

In a notice, the Lighting Company Authority said it has cancelled the internship program that was to benefit hundreds of graduates.

The company advertised the Graduate Trainee program on August 2  and urged qualified candidates to apply for 14 professions highlighted. 

“Kenya Power is seeking talented and motivated individuals to join our Management Trainee Program. We are looking for brilliant, dynamic, and self-driven people eager to make a difference and be part of our results-oriented teams. This program offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic team, contributing to the growth and transformation of Kenya’s energy landscape,” the statement read at the time.

Benefits that successful applicants were to receive

According to KPLC, ideal applicants from the above position must have graduated from recognized institutions after the year 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study, at least attaining Second Class Upper Division.

Successful applicants from the program were to undergo an eighteen (18) months training program at the Company.

Additionally, The training program was to be structured to include classroom, mentorship, hands-on projects, and rotations across various Departments and functions among others.

Moreover, on successful completion, the applicants were to be absorbed in specific functions of the Company.
