The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reported tremendous progress in the ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, which began on March 30 and will run until April 28, 2026.
In a press release dated April 10, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said 875,501 new voters had been registered as of April 9, reflecting an increase of 531,185 voters since the last update issued on April 3.
“The Commission is deeply inspired by the patriotic spirit displayed by Kenyans over the past week. We wish to extend our sincere appreciation and congratulations to the hundreds of thousands of citizens who have stepped forward to claim their right to vote,” read part of the release.
The IEBC also recorded 49,502 voter transfers and 1,066 updates of voter particulars.
The commission noted that the exercise is being conducted across all 1,450 County Assembly Wards, institutions of higher learning, Huduma Centers, constituency offices, and the Customer Experience Center at Anniversary Towers.
IEBC Records an Increase in Voter Registration
The commission expressed appreciation to Kenyans who have participated in the exercise, describing the turnout as a sign of growing civic engagement.
IEBC noted that the increase in numbers reflects citizens’ willingness to take part in shaping the country’s future.
The electoral body further urged those who have not yet registered to visit registration centers to strengthen democracy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Additionally, IEBC raised concerns over a few incidents involving attacks on staff and called on security agencies and the public to ensure the safety of its officers.
“While the exercise has proceeded smoothly, the Commission notes with concern a few incidents where staff were attacked. We condemn these acts of cowardice and reiterate that the safety of our personnel is paramount. We call upon the security organs and all Kenyans to protect our officers as they perform this sacred national duty,” read part of the press release.
The commission also encouraged existing voters to verify their details through its online portal as the registration drive continues.
Kenyans Facing Online Verification Errors to Visit Constituency Offices
At the same time, the electoral body asked Kenyans who are having difficulties confirming their voter registration status online to visit voter registration centers or IEBC offices to address their grievances.
This is after Kenyans took to social media to complain about their inability to access their voter details through the portal.
In response, Erastus Edung Ethekon reiterated the information in the viral error messages, insisting that voters whose details were unavailable on the portal needed to visit a constituency office for assistance.
“If an individual is not found but was registered, they must visit the constituency office for follow-up. Many scenarios need to be pursued,” stated Erastus Edung.
According to the commissioner, the visit is not merely voter verification; many other scenarios are to be pursued as well.
