The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary night closure of a section of Uhuru Highway (A8 Road) to allow for highway maintenance works.
In a notice dated April 30, 2026, KeNHA said the affected section runs between the Museum Hill Interchange and the Westlands Roundabout.
The road closure took effect on May 7 and extends to Friday, May 8, 2026, between 10.00 pm and 5.00 am.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Uhuru Highway (A8 Road) between Museum Hill Interchange and Westlands Roundabout will be temporarily closed on Thursday, May 7, 2026, and Friday, May 8, 2026, between 10.00 pm and 5.00 am,” noted KeNHA.
The authority said the temporary shutdown is necessary to allow maintenance works to be carried out safely on the road section during off‑peak hours.
KeNHA Lists Alternative Routes During Closure
According to KeNHA, motorists heading towards Uhuru Highway and Chiromo Road (Nakuru‑bound) have been advised to use alternative routes, including Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, Westlands Ring Road, and the Nairobi Expressway.

Mombasa-bound traffic and intending to join the Uhuru Highway have been advised to use Parklands Ring Road, Ojijo Road, Kipande Road, Limuru Road, University Way, and the Nairobi Expressway.
The authority has urged all motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan during the closure period and to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals deployed on site.
KeNHA said normal traffic flow on the affected section of Uhuru Highway will be restored immediately after the maintenance works are completed.
“Motorists are advised to follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site. Normal traffic operations on the road will be restored upon completion of the works,” stated KeNHA.
Earlier One-Week Closure of Sections Uhuru Highway
On February 6, KeNHA announced the closure of the Uhuru Highway within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

In a notice shared on Friday, February 6, 2026, the authority’s Acting Director General, Luka Kimeli, notified the public that a section of the Uhuru Highway between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and the Westlands Roundabout would be closed for highway maintenance.
According to the notice, the closure was to take effect every night from Friday, February 6, 2026, to Friday, February 13, 2026.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) notifies the public that a section of Uhuru Highway (A8 Road) between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and Westlands Roundabout will be temporarily closed every night from Friday, February 6, 2026, to Friday, February 13, 2026, between 10:00 pm and 5:00 am. This closure is to allow for highway maintenance works on the road section.”
