The Kenya Railways Authority has notified the public that the train from Lukenya and Syokimau to the Nairobi central station will not be operational.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 28 morning, the authority noted that the rail on the route was having mechanical issues.
Further, the statement detailed that there was a blockage adding that a technical team was already working to resolve the matter.
“This morning the train to Nairobi Central station from Lukenya and Syokimau stations will not run.
“This is due to a blockage on the line as a result of a derailment at Imara Daima. Our technical team are working to restore the derailed train,” the statement read in part.

At the same time, the railway authority asked passengers plying the route to seek alternative means of transport to the Central Business District (CBD).
The statement indicated that a follow up statement would be issued once the matter was resolved.
“Passengers are advised to bear with us and use alternative means. We apologize for the inconvenience caused,’ the statement read in part.
Notably, other commuter train services on routes within Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) remained undisrupted.

Kenya Railways Announces New Fares
The notice came days after the authority announced new fares for Train Services within Nairobi including Kibera, Makadara, Kikuyu and Limuru.
Additionally, Kenya Railways stated that fares for the Nairobi – Embakasi route and from the Nairobi Station to Makadara will be charged at Ksh40.
Also, those stopping at Donholm and Embakasi stops will be charged at Ksh50.
Likewise, fares for trains on the Nairobi – Syokimau route, Makadara, Imara Daima and Syokimau fares would be Ksh40, Ksh50 and Ksh60 respectively.
Passengers travelling to Mlolongo, Athi River and Lukenya from the Nairobi Station will pay Ksh60, Ksh70 and Ksh80 respectively in the revised prices.
At the same time, fares for the Nairobi – Limuru route, and to Kibera were set at Ksh40 for both peak and off-peak hours, while Kikuyu and Limuru train fares were set at Ksh60 and Ksh80 respectively.
Notably, the changes will take effect from January 1, 2024.
