A Kenyan Media House has received recognition awards in Zimbabwe for its ability to humanize storytelling, in an award sponsored by the World Health Organization and the African Union in Harare.
The Kenyan Media house, Distory Communications was awarded The Regional AMR Champion Media award for their documentary- The Silent Pandemic.
Worth noting, Distory Communications company emerged as the top media organization from a pool of 53 entries across Africa.
While making the announcement on their LinkedIn page, Distory communications manager Hussein Mohamed highlighted that the documentary shows the importance of storytelling in the complex world of today.
Kenyan Documentary Awarded
Further the documentary titled ‘The Silent Pandemic’ by Distory captured the aspect of inclusivity as it speaks for every individual at all levels of life.

“Everything difficult can be broken down into a language that speaks to everyone. Broken down into little bits of information that appeal to the hearts and minds of audiences without losing the significance of the message,” said Hussein.
Likewise, the documentary according to Distory was produced in partnership with the World Health Organization and Ministry of Health in Kenya in a bid to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance.
“We thank partners such as the World Health Organization, The University of Edinbrugh, Kenya’s Ministry of Health and Africa CDC for embracing storytelling as an important tool in awareness creation,” read the post in part.
The Silent Pandemic Influence
Meanwhile Distory Communications while accepting the awards emphasized its continued use of storytelling to improve people’s lives, likewise as it acknowledged the influence of the piece ‘The Silent Pandemic’.
“We believe that this piece of work will influence, in one way or another, policy discussions around anti-microbial resistance,” said Hussein.
On the other hand, Distory expressed its satisfaction in telling stories of families who were affected by the improper use of antibiotics.

“Eventually, the pain, the loss and the damage to individuals, families and nations caused by the improper use of antibiotics will be halted but only if we all join hands, play our role and end AMR. It can be done, and it will be done,” said Hussein.
