The Principal Secretary, of the State Department for Higher Education and Research, Ministry of Education, Kenya Beatrice Muganda Inyangala has revealed that Kenyans will now learn Chinese.
This is due to the new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed between Kenya and China touching on the educational advancement of China’s extraordinary language.
A statement by Inyangala on her socials on Sunday, November 17, read in part, “With the new MOU, Kenyan universities will partner with Chinese institutions in fields like education, agriculture, and engineering. This collaboration will promote innovative research, teacher training, and student exchanges, strengthening our global ties.”
While delivering her speech on behalf of the government at the Global Confucius Institute delegates gathering in Beijing for the 20th celebration anniversary Inyangala remarked, “It is through the Confucius Institute, that we have come to appreciate the Chinese language and culture in a very profound way. Indeed, Chinese is a language of elegance, depth, and cultural resilience.”

Ps Inyangala on How to Nurture the Chinese Language
The PS asserted that she was deeply honoured. Furthermore, she noted that it feels like a convergency of destiny and privilege to contribute to the global dialogue on how to nurture and promote Chinese language learning worldwide.
Moreover, she went on to narrate that 20 years ago Kenya’s Ministry of Education and China signed an agreement to establish Africa’s first Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
Similarly, she elaborated that it marked the beginning of a flourishing era for International Chinese Education in Kenya and across the African continent.
At the same time, she noted that the country has witnessed growing cooperation, between Chinese and Kenyan Universities.

Other Confucius Institutes
During the delivery of her speech, Inyangala also highlighted of other three Confucius Institutes in Kenya found at Kenyatta University, Egerton University and Moi University.
“Together we have seen over a hundred thousand Kenyan students embrace the study of the Chinese language opening up new avenues and transforming groundless futures. It is through the international Chinese language teacher’s scholarship that thousands of talented Kenyan students have studied in China and become accomplished educators in Kenya,” she affirmed.
Additionally, she recognized, Ruth Njeri Wangui who is inspiring the next generation to study Chinese. Also, she mentioned Caroline Karutho one of the very first the first batch od Locomotive drivers for the Kenyan Standard Gauge Railway who is associated with the Confucius Institute.
Ingangala emphasized that mastery of the Chinese language has bolstered a wealth of employment opportunities for Kenyan Youth in Chinese companies located in Kenya, China and abroad.
She expressed her gratitude for the intervention of the Institute and its network, there is a ready talent available for the benefit of the entire world.
“Chinese is therefore a language that is strengthening the social fabric and economic ties between the two countries,” she added.
Notably, the Confucius Institute (CI) is a non-profit educational institution that promotes the Chinese language and culture and facilitates cultural exchanges. In addition, it supports local Chinese teaching.
