The nomination and subsequent appointment of Prof. Kithure Kindiki as the next Deputy President (DP) has opened a new race for who will succeed him as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for the Ministry of Interior and National Administration. National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has been rumored to be eyeing the position after President William Ruto picked Kindiki to succeed Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached by Members of Parliament.
However, speaking on Monday, October 21, Ichung’wah dismissed the reports, stating that he already has a job as the representative of Kikuyu Constituency residents in the National Assembly.
“I’ve heard there’s a lot of talk, and even a leader spoke here saying I should be appointed as the CS for Interior. But I want to tell that leader that I already have a job, and I don’t want people to be confused,” Ichung’wah said.
“I have a job given to me by the people of Kikuyu, and the MPs also gave me another role as their leader in the National Assembly.”
Ichung’wah said he is a leader in the National Assembly, and the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua was a clear indication.
The MP thanked the Members of Parliament (MPs) who supported the impeachment motion but reiterated that it was not aimed at punishing an individual.
However, he explained that he didn’t expect to be given any position by leading the impeachment process.
“You saw how I led the impeachment process in Parliament, and I want to thank all the MPs because they all worked with us. I didn’t do that work to get any position, and I want to tell my brother who said I should be given a ministerial job that I have no interest in a ministerial position,” he said.

Ichung’wah said the impeachment was for the public interest, which overrides the interest of an individual.
“We didn’t target anyone personally; it’s because we loved Kenya, Kenyans, and the development of Kenya more than individual interests,” he said.

He stated that he will continue supporting President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government in delivering its manifesto in his capacity as MP and Leader of the Majority.
“That is the job I pray to God to allow me to continue with so we can help the President bring water, build roads, and ensure Kenyans receive healthcare through SHIF,” he said.
President Ruto will appoint a new face to succeed Kindiki, who has served as the Interior CS for two years.
