Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Tuesday evening chaired a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) meeting at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi, where the National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved to immediately start grassroots elections in the remaining 20 counties.
In a statement on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, UDA confirmed that the party’s elections will start immediately.
“It has been decided that the party grassroots elections for the remaining 20 counties will proceed immediately,” read part of the post.
National Elections Board is to start the registration process.
During the meeting, the National Elections Board (NEB) was instructed to start the registration process right away and issue an official notice on the start of the election immediately.
The board was also directed to announce the exact grassroots election dates within the next seven days. According to the resolution, all elections must take place within 45 days starting on Tuesday.
UDA’s victory in the past by-elections
The party election comes at a crucial political moment, following the recent by-elections in the country, where UDA clinched several seats, including in Mbeere North.

In 2024, UDA held its first phase of grassroots elections across 27 counties. The exercise attracted many aspirants who turned up to choose new ward, constituency, and county officials.
Leonard Wa Muthende won the parliamentary seat in Malava with 15,802 votes, while David Athman Ndakwa was elected MP in Malava with 21,564 votes.
Ahmed Maalim Hassan won the parliamentary seat in Banisa. In Baringo, Kiprono Chemitei was declared elected Senator after wading off competition from the Liberal Party’s David Kipruto, who garnered 13,037 votes.

The 2024 UDA Grassroots Elections
It was the first major attempt by the party to reorganize its structure after the 2022 General Election, in which UDA claimed the presidential seat under President William Ruto.
The grassroots election gave many young people and women a chance to take up leadership roles.
