National Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists & Dentists Union (KMPDU) Davji Atellah has condemned the possible abduction of Doctor Austin Omondi Alias Japrado by alleged government officials.

In a statement on Sunday, June 23, Davji said the union had reliably been informed that Japrado was being held at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Headquarters along Kiambu road.

“I want to condemn in the strongest terms possible the abduction of one of our members, @Dr_AustinOmondi by suspected government agents in a car with registration plates KCU 819H. We are reliably informed that he was being held at DCI headquarters along Kiambu road,” stated Davji.

According to the KMPDU boss, Dr. Austine had reported that strange people were calling him and threatening to kill him because of his involvement in the #rejectfinancebill2024 protests where young medics including himself were offering free medical aid and leading in blood donation drive to help injured protesters.

“Dr. Austin last evening reported to us that strange people have been calling him and issuing death threats to him due to his involvement with the ‘Medics for Kenya’ activities where young medics have been offering free medical aid and leading in blood donation drive to help injured protestors,” he added.

KMPDU Issues Ultimatum

Davji equated such actions of abduction to the Nyayo days where citizens were maimed and killed for standing up for their right.

As such, he said anybody who takes that path will forcefully be dragged back into the straight and narrow path of political accountability.

The KMPDU boss further called on police to stop brutalizing and abducting Kenyans, saying the fight for a better country would also benefit them.

“I know there are people who miss the Nyayo days of terror where citizens were maimed and killed for standing up for their rights, but I have news for them, THOSE DAYS ARE LONG GONE and anybody who tries to take that path will forcefully be dragged back into the straight and narrow path of political accountability,” added the statement.

He further called for the immediate release of Austin vowing to take action if the DCI and NIS do not act.

“We demand the immediate release of Austin. Otherwise, we will shut down to DCI and NIS headquarters,” the statement further reads.

Japrado Arrested

Reports that Medical doctor and founder of Tabibu online Austin Omondi also known as JaPrado had been arrested along Chandaria forest road made round on social media early Sunday, June 23 Morning with netizens calling for his release.

Preliminary reports indicated that he was arrested outside Sikh Union by individuals driving a car registered under the number plate KCU 819 H.

Further reports indicate that he was running a blood drive outside Sikh Union when he was captured.

A statement posted on his account on Sunday, June 23, confirmed the alleged abduction and shared more details of the car he was whisked into.

“JaPrado has been taken outside Sikh Union retweet widely guys I don’t know where they have taken him, KCU 819H,” the post said.

Reports indicate that JaPrado was volunteering by assisting victims of police brutality during the anti-finance bill demonstrations.

Other Alleged Arrests

His arrest follows a claim by Embakasi West Member of Parliament (MP) Mark Mwenje, who alleged that police had hijacked and abducted Attorney General (AG) Justin Muturi’s son, Leslie Muturi.

Additionally, Leslie’s alleged abduction occurred just hours after the release of Billy Simani, popularly known as the Crazy Nairobian.

According to Mwenje, Leslie was reportedly captured in Lavington, Kilimani on Saturday June 22.

This incident has raised eyebrows, especially amid unverified reports of police targeting individuals they consider to be organizers of the Occupy Parliament anti-finance bill protests.

Kenyans React After JaPrado Arrest

An X user base 10 reiterated reports on his arrest and urged the authorities to stop in intimidating Kenyans.

“Dr. Austin Omondi alias JaPrado arrested for running a blood drive campaign. Stop the intimidation,” Base 10 said.

Another X user, Kogdew demanded the release of the medic while insinuating that the authorities were capturing X (formerly Twitter) bigwigs.

“JaPrado Arrested They want all the twitter bigwigs RELEASE JAPRADO RELEASE JAPRADO RELEASE JAPRADO RELEASE JAPRADO,” he said.

Mini_Wanjiru wondered why they arrested the medic considering he was only giving insights about blood groups on the platform.

There ought to be a clear reason why JaPrado has been arrested. Just because of talking about blood groups in this space. No!!!,” she wondered.

JacklineWG confirmed the incident while condemning the alleged abductors.

“Cowards using KCU 819H have arrested JaPrado outside Sikh Union, where he was leading a blood donation drive. They are now kidnapping doctors for organizing blood drives for civilians injured during protests,” she said.

Romantic loner remarked, “They better arrest someone else please. This guy is the only doctor on the streets with Kenyans making sure they’re okay,” he noted.
