The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has directed applicants in 2025 to use the 2024 cut-off points.
According to the placement body, the cut-off points are set after placement; hence, there are currently no 2025 cut-off points.
Cut-off points are set using the cluster weight of the applicant who secured the last degree in that program, making the applicant’s weight the cut-off point for that program.
“Cut- off points are derived from the cluster weight of the last applicant placed in a degree program competitively. Hence, the 2025 cut-off points will be known at the end of the current placement process. Use previous years’ cut-off points as a guide,” KUCCPS advised.
Applicants have been asked to check on the cluster weight, and if the cluster weight is higher than the previous cut-off plans, then they have a chance of applying for the desired program.
Additionally, KUCCPS emphasized that placement will be done strictly on merit, and applicants whose cluster weights exceed previous cut-off points have a higher chance of securing admission, though outcomes depend on competition.

Difference Between Cut-off Points and Cluster Points
Cut-off points are the weighted cluster points of the last competitively placed student in a given degree program.
Cut-off points vary across programs and institutions and change over the years.
On the other hand, the weighted cluster points represent a KCSE candidate’s computed performance in four subjects required for admission.
The candidate’s performance is measured against the performance of the best candidates in that year’s KCSE examination.
The calculation is based on the cluster subject requirement and overall performance.

KUCCPS Application Guideline
Applicants interested in pursuing programs under the KUCCPS placement are required to log in to the KUCCPS Student Portal at students.kuccps.net using your KCSE Index Number and KCSE Year.
New applicants are supposed to use their KCPE Index or Birth Certificate Number as their initial password.
When applying the the program at another institution, candidates will be required to compare their cluster weight to the 2024 cut-off.
KUCCPS advised that candidates should apply to programs at institutions where their cluster score exceeds the previous cut-off to improve their chances.
In addition, the applicant will be required to check the minimum subject requirements for each program and have multiple realistic choices.
The application deadline for degrees and TVET programs is May 6, 2026.
