Authorities in Makindu, Makueni County set over 560 Kilograms of Bhang on fire on Tuesday.
Senior county security authorities, investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Anti-narcotics Unit, and Senior Principal Magistrate J.B. Ireri of the Makindu Law Courts presided over the incident.
Similarly, in April 2022, police in Makindu confiscated bhang valued at 1 million shillings, being ferried in a Nissan matatu, packed in eight gunny bags, each with 696 sticks amounting to 5,568.
In past cases, police in January 2020 set ablaze cannabis worth Ksh.1.8 million in Makindu.
The 1,870 sticks of bhang had been seized in 2019 in Kibwezi Town along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on transit to Mombasa from an unknown location.

While use of cannabis is illegal in Kenya, several other African countries such as Morocco, Rwanda, Uganda, Lesotho, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Malawi, have legalized commercial cultivation of the drug.
