A man has taken to social media to share a shocking story of betrayal that took place at his former workplace. Oluwanishola Akeju revealed how a trusted colleague once sabotaged him by sending a resignation letter from his official email without his knowledge.
In a Facebook post sparked by a discussion on hidden betrayals, Akeju recounted how the incident unfolded years ago, despite the high level of trust and security he maintained around his work system.
“I don’t know how careless I was, but what can trust not do?” the Nigerian man reflected, noting that as the internal control officer, no one dared touch his computer, and each staff member had their own system.
Despite the precautions, a close colleague, however, managed to access his system while he briefly stepped out of his office during a phone call.
According to Akeju, the colleague used the opportunity to send a resignation email in his name, later deleting both the sent mail and the document permanently from the system.
The deception came to light when Akeju was summoned by Human Resources and asked to confirm his supposed resignation.
In shock, he denied any knowledge of the email, insisting that the words used did not sound like his own, even though the message had been sent from his official account.

The management initially doubted his denial, but an IT staff member suggested reviewing the office CCTV footage.
“The guy asked for the time the mail was received and the date. I think he was the only one who believed me. You know, sometimes, you just feel like this person is saying the truth no matter how vivid the accusations look like,” Oluwanishola noted.

Upon review, the footage showed that shortly after the Nigerian left his office, the colleague entered and exited a few minutes later — a timeline that matched when the resignation email was sent.
When confronted with the evidence, the colleague admitted to the act and pleaded for forgiveness.
The revelation left Akeju stunned, especially given how close they had been outside work. He revealed that they had been hanging out on weekends, visiting each other’s homes, and sharing a strong bond.
“It was that day I understood that the real enemy of a man is one of those close to him,” Akeju wrote, summing up his painful lesson on betrayal.

His confession elicited reactions from many who shared their own thoughts and experiences about betrayal, especially at the hands of those closest to them.
“Indeed, your enemies are members of your own household, so tread with caution,” Omorogeia Rachel commented, advising others to remain discerning and prayerful.
Audrey Nchabeleng Tebeila, on her part, shared, “I lock my office every time I get out, whether I go to the loo or someone’s office. Some talked, saying it seems I am saying they are witches, but I just don’t care about how they feel — I know I am protecting myself from a lot of things.”
Another user, Edhabe John, reflected on the emotional pain that comes with betrayal, writing, “The most painful thing about betrayal is that it always comes from people you trust and love… What a world.”
Similarly, Enoch Akinleye warned that trust can often backfire.
