Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced sweeping changes to the party’s leadership, appointing Nyali MP Mohamed Ali as deputy party leader, Jamleck Kamau as chairman, and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru as the party’s spokesperson.
The appointments, announced on August 7, form part of a reorganization aimed at strengthening the party’s leadership and positioning it ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi, Kalonzo said the changes were intended to bolster Wiper’s leadership by bringing on board experienced figures with diverse backgrounds in politics, governance and public service.
Among the key appointments was former Cabinet minister and former Member of Parliament Jamleck Kamau, who will now serve as the party’s chairman.
Why Kalonzo Chose Mohamed Ali, Kamau and Njiru
Kalonzo said Kamau’s decades of political experience and his role in building coalitions made him well suited to help steer the party as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
“Jamleck has spent 30 years building coalitions, balancing budgets and holding political formations together under pressure. That is precisely the discipline Wiper needs,” Kalonzo said.

The Wiper leader also appointed Mohamed Ali as the party’s deputy leader, citing his experience as an investigative journalist, anti-corruption advocate and legislator.
Ali, who represents Nyali Constituency in the National Assembly, joins the party’s top leadership as Wiper seeks to strengthen its national presence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kalonzo also named advocate Ndegwa Njiru as the party’s new spokesperson. Njiru has recently emerged as one of the party’s most vocal legal and political figures, frequently representing Wiper on constitutional and governance matters.
Kalonzo Dismisses Meeting With Ruto Claims
The leadership changes come just days after Wiper dismissed claims that Kalonzo had met President William Ruto at State House to negotiate a political deal ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement issued on July 30, the party rejected speculation linking Kalonzo to the Kenya Kwanza administration, insisting that he remains committed to the United Alternative coalition.
“The Wiper Patriotic Front further reiterates that H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka remains firmly committed as a Principal of the United Alternative Government,” the party said.
Wiper maintained that Kalonzo continues to work closely with his fellow coalition principals through consultation and a shared vision of providing an alternative leadership for the country.
The party also dismissed social media claims that he was positioning himself to become President Ruto’s running mate, describing the reports as misinformation and politically motivated propaganda intended to undermine his credibility.
The viral claims were accompanied by a video showing Kalonzo walking on a red carpet and interacting with leaders in State House, which led social media users to believe he had recently met President Ruto.
A spot check confirmed that the video was recorded in 2023 during the handover of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) Report, an event attended by President William Ruto, Kalonzo Musyoka and other leaders from both the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalitions following bipartisan talks.
