Just weeks after taking over as Chief Executive Officer of the American Chamber of Commerce Kenya (AmCham Kenya), Paul Muthaura has been appointed to the Board of Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Kenya as a non-executive director.
DTB announced the appointment in a notice on Friday, July 17, stating that Muthaura joined the board with effect from July 14, 2026.
“The Board of Directors of Diamond Trust Bank Kenya Limited (the “Company”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Paul Murithi Muthaura, MBS, as a non-executive Director of the Company with effect from 14 July 2026,” stated DTB.
AmCham Kenya Chair Joins DTB Board
The appointment comes barely a month after Paul Muthaura assumed leadership of AmCham Kenya on June 17, where he is spearheading efforts to strengthen trade and investment ties between Kenya and the United States.
Following his appointment as AmCham Kenya chairman, Muthaura said he was looking forward to the engagements ahead.
“Such an honour to take on this mantle at this moment in time! Looking forward to the work and engagements ahead,” stated Muthaura.

While announcing his appointment to the bank’s board, DTB described Paul Muthaura as a governance and financial markets expert with extensive experience in regulatory leadership, financial sector development, corporate performance, public policy reform and capital markets.
Long Career in Finance and Capital Markets
Paul Muthaura is one of Kenya’s most experienced financial sector leaders, having built a career spanning law, financial regulation, insurance, sustainable finance and corporate governance.
Before joining AmCham Kenya, Muthaura served as Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI) until December 2025, where he led efforts to expand high-integrity carbon markets across the continent and coordinated engagements at the Africa Climate Summit, the United Nations and other global climate forums.
Previously, he worked as an independent consultant at Emerging Markets Regulation and Development (EMRD) Advisory Limited, advising institutions including the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the World Bank Group on regulatory and market development projects.

Muthaura is best known for his tenure at the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), where he served for 14 years in various senior positions before becoming Chief Executive Officer from 2012 to 2019.
During his time at the regulator, he led major reforms to strengthen Kenya’s capital markets, including the development of the 2014–2023 Capital Markets Master Plan, which was adopted as a Vision 2030 flagship project.
Paul Muthaura led reforms to improve market oversight and enforcement and introduced international certification programmes for industry professionals.
Extensive Governance Experience
Beyond executive leadership, Paul Muthaura has served on local and international boards and advisory bodies.
He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the International Valuation Standards Council (IVSC) and is a board member of the British American Tobacco Kenya Foundation.
He has also served on the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) and the Financial Stability Board Regional Consultative Group for Sub-Saharan Africa under IOSCO.
His previous board appointments include the Retirement Benefits Authority, the Insurance Regulatory Authority, and the Vision 2030 Delivery Board.
