The Nairobi County Government’s health, wellness and nutrition office has announced the immediate changes to the Mama Lucy Hospital Management Board.
This move came moments after a disturbing video of a pregnant woman giving birth on the floor of the hospital went viral, attracting condemnation.
The Nairobi government, through a statement released on Monday, April 17 noted that the incident was disheartening and unfortunate.
“The lady arrived at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital on Saturday, April 15 at 5.20pm in the company of her relatives. The expectant mother complained of lower abdominal pains radiating to the back with increased intensity. The patient also complained that she could not feel regular baby movements,” reads part of the statement.
Moreover, the doctor on duty is said to have immediately recommended an ultrasound to confirm the lack of foetal heartbeat.
The hospital medical team and counsellors reportedly told the patient and her family the ultrasound results which revealed that the baby was already dead.
The statement further, noted that the ultrasound scan results revealed that the patient had experienced an Intrauterine Foetal Death (IUFD) at 38 weeks 5 days.
