Autopsy Reveals How Multimedia University Student, Sylvia Kemunto Died

Government Chief Pathologist Johansen Oduor has revealed  the cause of death of the slain Multimedia University student Sylvia Kemunto.

In an autopsy conducted on Tuesday, April 8, Oduor revealed that the, 20-year-old died by strangulation and suffered multiple head injuries caused by a blunt object.

Earlier, the prime suspect, Philip Eric Mutinda, a first-year Electrical Engineering student and acquaintance of the slain Multimedia University student Sylvia Kemunto, whose body was found dumped in a water tank, confessed to the reason behind her death.

According to police reports, the suspect admitted to killing her following an altercation between them.

Authorities stated that the suspect confessed to hitting Kemunto during a confrontation that arose when he attempted to touch her.

Mutinda was prompted to visit Kemunto’s room, knowing she would be alone and took the opportunity to seduce her because he had been pursuing her for a while. When she resisted, a fight broke out, resulting in him pushing her.

In the process of the altercation, she hit her head against the wall and collapsed.

Upon discovering that she was deceased, the suspect allegedly folded her body into a large suitcase, briefly took it to his room, and subsequently disposed of it in a rooftop water tank that was in use at the time.

On Friday, April 4, the suspect surrendered to police in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County. This followed the launch of investigations into the tragic death of the Multimedia University student, whose body was discovered days after she was reported missing from the university’s premises.

The student’s body was found on the night of Wednesday, April 2, inside a water tank located on the rooftop of a hostel within the institution’s compound.

The search began after the first-year student, who was pursuing a double major in Mass Communication and Computer Science, went missing under mysterious circumstances on Sunday, March 30.

Triza Kwamboka, the mother of the missing student, informed journalists that she had sent her daughter some money for upkeep on the day she disappeared.

However, when Kwamboka tried to call Sylvia to confirm whether she had received the funds, her calls went unanswered, which raised concerns.

Kwamboka then traveled to Multimedia University, where she learned from the school administration that her daughter had not been seen since Sunday.

Subsequently, she filed a missing persons report at the Lang’ata Police Station, where an Occurrence Book (OB) entry was made.

Speaking to the media, Kwamboka revealed that her daughter had recently confided in her about a male student who was making unwelcome advances.

“She had told me about a young man who was pursuing her. She said she did not like him, and I told her to stand firm,” said the mother.
