Choice Hotels International, a popular U.S. hospitality company, is set to enter the African market with the opening of three hotels in Kenya in early 2026.
The company plans to open an Ascend Collection property in the Maasai Mara, along with a Clarion and a Quality Inn in Nairobi, as the company aims to have at least 15 more properties across the region by 2030.
The Ascend Collection hotel will be located in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, one of Africa’s most visited safari destinations. Pat Pacious, the President and CEO of Choice Hotels International, stressed that this expansion into Africa is a significant step in the company’s global growth strategy.
“Our fast-growing footprint and performance results prove that Choice Hotels is well-positioned to help franchisees succeed in more destinations than ever before. Entering Africa is an important milestone in that journey and presents a unique opportunity to bring our world-class hospitality to one of the continent’s fastest-growing hospitality markets,” he stated.

The Maasai Mara hotel will provide boutique, upscale rooms for travelers visiting the area.
In addition to the Maasai Mara property, the new Clarion and Quality Inn hotels will be located in Nairobi, catering to the increasing demand for both business and leisure travel.
These new hotels will also expand the Choice Privileges program, which allows members to earn and redeem points at over 7,100 hotels worldwide, including more than 1,000 international properties.
The three new hotels in Kenya will add to Choice Hotels’ Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) portfolio, which now totals nearly 64,000 rooms. This expansion follows the addition of 50 Quality Suites hotels in France, effectively doubling the company’s presence in the country.
