The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has promoted hundreds of its officers to various ranks after undergoing training.
DCI in a statement on June 28, 2024, noted that a total number of 512 officers were promoted to the ranks of Corporals and Sergeants.
According to the Directorate, the officers were promoted after undergoing a four-month training in a ceremony presided by DCI director Mohamed Amin.
“512 DCI officers were today promoted to the ranks of Corporals and Sergeants following the successful completion of a four-month intensive training at the Magadi Field Campus,” read part of the statement.

In the graduation ceremony, 360 officers were promoted from police constables to corporals, while 152 corporals attained the rank of police sergeants.
Officers Promoted After 4-month Training
The Directorate further stated that the main aim of the training was to focus on improving the quality and standards of the officers’ investigations.
“The training that kicked off 17 weeks ago focused on improving the quality and standards of the officers’ investigations, while equipping them with the requisite skills to take up their new leadership roles,” added DCI.

While congratulating the course men and women, Director Amin reminded them that promotions come with added responsibilities and accountability.
He further urged the newly promoted officers to offer quality services to Kenyans with utmost decorum and strict adherence of the rule of law.
At the same time, the DCI Chief thanked the Inspector General of Police (IG) Japhet Koome for believing in the Directorate’s capacity to train and promote its own officers.
According to the Directorate’s boss, the move had enabled the Directorate to focus on the critical aspects of training in relation to the daily duties of the detectives.

The Commandant National Criminal Investigation Academy Gateria Mboroki, on her part, affirmed the readiness of the officers to serve in their new capacities, owing to the objectivity of the course.
Meanwhile, Richard Mwaura, the Director Operations at the Directorate called upon the officers to uphold professionalism and integrity, reminding them that members of the public were expecting nothing short of diligent services.
FBI Director Visits DCI
The promotions came days after the United States Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) director Christopher Wray visited the DCI headquarters as part of his five-day visit.
Wray while speaking on June 13 pledged to continue working with Kenya to ensure stability in the region.
The FBI Director further added that the Bureau will continue to strengthen partnerships by providing tools and expertise to fight crime.
“We have been working with the DCI to bring together partners in and around this region to talk about threats we are all seeing and share lessons. We are also sharing new ways of collaboration to combat terrorism.
Part of the reason for my visit, is to say thank you for the outstanding collaboration with the DCI and other agencies,” he said.
Additionally, while addressing the threat posed by Al-Shabaab terrorists, he said that there is need for continued cooperation and collaboration with security agencies.
