“I work in a hotel selling tea, so I am always on the move. While I was on the road, I received a call informing me that I was needed at Kenyatta. When I asked if there was a problem, they confirmed there was an emergency and urged me to come immediately. I had to turn back and collect the necessary documents before heading there,” Wanjiku narrated.
KNH on the Spot Over Brutal Murder of a Patient
Upon arriving at the referral hospital, she learned that her husband had died as a result of murder. She questioned how such an incident could occur in one of the most secure hospitals without anyone noticing.

“When I arrived at the hospital, I sensed tension, and suddenly, I was in shock. I wondered what had happened. A doctor took us to a separate room and began explaining the situation. Gilbert was gone, but his death was not natural.
I kept asking myself how something like this could happen in such a big hospital—a place I personally trust and feel comfortable taking a patient, believing they are in safe hands. How is it possible that someone could be killed, their throat slit inside the hospital, yet no one noticed? Not even the patients around him? To me, this feels like an inside job,” she said.

After receiving the news of her husband’s death, Wanjiku was asked by investigators from the homicide department to view the body and confirm if it was indeed her husband’s.
“The bed he was lying on was covered in blood, and even the floor beneath it was soaked in blood. His neck had been slit in the middle, but when I looked closely, it seemed as though the cut was not clean. It looked like it had been forced, as if a blunt object had been used,” Wanjiku recounted.
