Hotel Clarifies Viral Video of Indian Man Mistreating Employees

Taita Hills and Salt Lick Wildlife Resort Limited management has responded to multiple allegations of harassment, racial abuse, and mistreatment of workers within its establishment, as well as a viral video circulating on social media in which the General Manager is seen yelling at staff and pouring food that some employees were preparing.

In a statement dated Tuesday, February 4, the Taita Taveta-based resort dismissed these allegations as baseless.

“We wish to address recent misinformation circulating in the media concerning the operations at Taita Hills and Salt Lick Safari Lodge, as well as our esteemed General Manager.

Regarding the allegations of discrimination, racism, and hostility, we categorically reject these claims,” part of the statement read.

Furthermore, the management stated that the video circulating on social media was from an incident that occurred one year ago, which was resolved internally without any harm caused to staff.

Additionally, several team members have since been promoted in recognition of their outstanding contributions and performance improvements.

“The video circulating is over a year old. The situation was thoroughly addressed through our internal processes, with corrective measures taken and sincere apologies extended accordingly,” the statement read.

The management also dismissed claims that employees had been denied leave or off days, affirming that the well-being of staff remains a top priority.

“The General Manager and Human Resource department are acutely aware of the demands of the hospitality industry.

We actively promote a healthy work-life balance, ensuring that our team members spend quality time with their families and focus on their personal and mental well-being,” the resort stated, adding that no formal complaints of discrimination or mistreatment had been received through the HR department.

Moreover, the resort highlighted its commitment to corporate social responsibility, noting that over 80% of its workforce comes from the local community.

The company also supports local charitable organizations, schools, medical initiatives, and microfinancing projects as part of its community engagement efforts.

Taita Hills and Salt Lick Wildlife Resort Limited statement comes a day after the Kenya Tourism Authority wrote to them demanding an explanation regarding multiple allegations of harassment within its premises.

In a demand letter, the Authority noted that numerous complaints had been reported against the establishment.

As such, the Authority ordered the general manager to appear at its Mombasa office within five (5) days from the date of the letter to submit a statement regarding the allegations.
