New York Times’ Blue Badge Removed for Not Paying Subscription Fee

The New York Times on Sunday lost its Twitter blue badge verification, for not paying for the company’s Twitter Blue subscription service.

According to Buzz Feed, many other major media outlets such as The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, said they wouldn’t pay for Twitter Blue.

The media houses further said they won’t allow its journalists to expense the cost of the service.

Twitter CEO Elon Musk had on Saturday threatened to remove the blue badge for accounts failing to pay.

Twitter blue is part of the company’s efforts to boost its revenue, as Musk contends with a loss of advertisers since his controversial and sometimes-chaotic $44 billion takeover of the company.

Organizations will pay $1,000 a month subscription fee, and individual users $8 a month to maintain their verified status with the Twitter blue verification subscription.

The subscriptions however exempt individuals associated with verified paying organizations, and the 10,000 most-followed organizations and hundreds of Twitter’s top advertisers.

Twitter Blue, launched last year, also provides subscribers with fewer ads and the ability to edit and write longer tweets.
