The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has issued an update on the collection of logbooks, numberplates, and smart driving licenses (DLs).
In a statement on Thursday, February 29, NTSA said there will be normal operations and customers at its offices on Saturday, March 2.
“To facilitate our clients beyond the normal operation days (Monday to Friday), all NTSA offices will be opened on Saturday, 2nd March 2024, from 8am to 1pm for collection of logbooks, numberplates, and smart DLs,” read the statement in part.
NTSA explained that customers who were notified via SMS should collect the named items at the offices they selected during the application process.
“We urge our esteemed clients who have received SMS notifications to visit the NTSA office identified during the application process and collect logbooks, numberplates, and smart DLs.”
Collection Requirements
For smart DL collection customers will be required to provide their original Identification (ID) Card).
In addition to the original ID, logbook applicants will avail their previous logbook while those replacing the number plates will provide the old plates.
NTSA Previous Appeal
This comes after NTSA requested customers who made service applications on or before February 21, 2024, to collect the item they applied for.
Previously, NTSA service schedule was as follows: seven working days for number plates, five working days for Smart DL and three days for logbook.

“Thousands of Number plates, Smart DLs and Logbooks remain uncollected at NTSA,” read the notice in part.
“We humbly request all clients who made service applications as of 21st February 2024, and have received SMS notifications to collect their reflective number plates, logbooks and Smart DLs at the centers they identified during the application process.”
Manyora Exposes NTSA
The extension also came a day after political analyst Herman Manyora accused NTSA of extorting motorists seeking to obtain new number plates.
On February 28, 2024, Manyora told Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to intervene and punish the said officials.

“Kipchumba Murkomen should step in to dismantle the crooks at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) who are working in collaboration with NTSA staff to fleece motorists going to obtain new generation number plates,” said Manyora.
He further claimed that the officials are charging motorists seeking for the services as much as Ksh3,000 to replace their number plates.
Manyora said motorists are left with no choice but to pay the bribes as they can’t walk away without number plates.
