Former President Barack Obama’s decision to authorize more than 26,000 bombs in 2016 has resurfaced in public discourse following recent U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Just hours after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran, with explosions reported in major areas including Tehran, Democrats issued a major demand directed at President Donald Trump.
According to Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency, University Street and the Jomhouri area in Tehran were among the locations struck by several missiles.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called for an immediate congressional vote on war powers, accusing the president of acting against the interests of Americans.
According to Jeffries, the president is doing the exact opposite of what he promised the American people.
“Donald Trump promised to keep America out of costly and endless foreign wars. He is now doing the exact opposite in the Middle East. Congress must vote on a War Powers resolution immediately,” Jeffries said.

Obama’s Dropping of 26,000 Bombs
Jeffries’ demand has been met with strong resistance from conservative-leaning leaders, leading to renewed scrutiny of Obama-era military actions in 2016.
Congressman Randy Fine dismissed Jeffries’ call, saying the minority leader was “full of it,” arguing that Obama himself attacked “seven countries without congressional authorization and dropped 26,000 bombs in 2016.”
Trump ally Randy Fine also referred to Jeffries as “not very bright” for criticizing Trump, claiming the president is acting to “keep Americans safe.”
According to a report by the Council on Foreign Relations, the United States dropped 26,172 bombs in 2016, with the majority falling on Iraq and Syria. Most of these strikes were carried out under Operation Inherent Resolve, based on coalition airstrikes led by the U.S.
Death of the Supreme Leader
The future of the Islamic Republic has been thrown into uncertainty following the reported death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was allegedly killed in a major attack that prompted strong retaliation from Iran.
Announcing the development on his social media platform, Trump claimed that Khamenei’s death had given Iranians a chance to reclaim their country.

“This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country. We are hearing that many of their IRGC, Military, and other Security and Police Forces no longer want to fight and are looking for immunity from us,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
According to satellite images reportedly captured by Airbus, the 86-year-old leader was killed after an aircraft targeted his home compound in downtown Tehran.
Trump’s Warning to Iran
Donald Trump has issued an immediate response to Iran following its declaration of war, warning that the United States would respond with overwhelming force to any further attacks after the strikes launched by the United States and Israel.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump cautioned Iran against escalating the conflict, stating that “they better not do that.”
“Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever hit before. They better not do that, however, because if they do, we will hit them with a force that has never been seen before,” Trump warned.
