ODM Clarifies Reports of Disputes During Meeting Over Support for Ruto

The Orange and Democratic Movement (ODM) party has dismissed reports that there was a disagreement among its members in a meeting that was held on Friday, January 10, 2025.

In a statement dated Tuesday, January 14, ODM interim Party leader Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o dismissed the reports and labeled them false.

“I have, however, been shocked and dismayed by stories circulating in sections of the media, insinuating that there were disagreements, even going as far as alleging fistfights during the meeting.

Let me categorically state that nothing could be further from the truth. The meeting was conducted in a spirit of camaraderie, mutual respect, and unity of purpose,” part of the statement read.

Nyong’o further stated that the party is aware of a deliberate rumour-mongering campaign orchestrated by enemies of democracy, whose sole mission is to destabilize the ODM party.

“Let it be known that ODM is stronger and more united than ever, and we remain steadfast in our pursuit of justice, democracy, and prosperity for all Kenyans. To those fueling these baseless rumours, we are ready and prepared to call their bluff,” the statement concluded.

At the same time, the Kisumu Governor called for fair treatment by the media, emphasizing that media freedom is a cornerstone of democracy.

Nyong’o’s statement comes days after a local daily reported disagreements within the party regarding President Ruto’s relationship with some members.

The publication alleged that certain officials were becoming “court poets” for Ruto, suggesting they might be positioning themselves for a running mate role in his potential re-election bid in 2027.

Among those mentioned were Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed.
