One person was confirmed dead after being run over by a lorry in Likoni, Mombasa. The female pedestrian died on the spot while boarding a ferry at the Likoni Crossing Channel in Mombasa on Friday night, December 14.
According to a police report, the incident occurred around 7:15 pm.
Another pedestrian, a man, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Likoni Sub-County Hospital for treatment, while the body of the deceased was taken to Coast General Hospital Mortuary.
The male pedestrian sustained multiple fractures to both legs.Â
Woman Dead, a Man Inured at Likoni Ferry
The lorry, which was carrying building blocks, was descending the mainland ramp toward the ferry when the driver, identified as Bakari Gonga, lost control of the vehicle and struck two pedestrians.
Authorities have since moved the Mitsubishi FH lorry to Likoni Police Station, and further investigations are pending.
The Likoni Ferry is notorious for accidents that have claimed numerous lives and left many injured over the years.

Past Bus and Truck Accidents at the Channel
The incident follows a similar case where a bus lost control and plunged into the Indian Ocean on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the Mombasa Likoni Ferry.
According to authorities, twelve people were injured in the incident. Nine were treated at the scene, while three were admitted to the hospital for further care.
An eyewitness told The Kenya Times that the bus, which was travelling from Nairobi to Ukunda, was carrying goods along with some passengers. The witness explained that most passengers had already disembarked before the accident occurred.
Reports indicated that the bus lost its brakes after crossing the Likoni Channel, careened backwards, and collided with a ferry.

Videos and photos of the incident shared widely on social media, captured the dramatic moment, showing the bus partially submerged in the ocean.

A day prior to the incident, the truck lost control and nearly plunged into the Indian Ocean on Saturday, October 5, narrowly missing commuters.
A video shared on social media shows the truck with its cab submerged in the ocean while the cargo bed remained on land.
The event caused significant traffic congestion and drew a large crowd of onlookers.
It also reignited concerns about safety along the busy ferry route, which has witnessed several accidents in recent times.
