Politician Arrested in Organ Harvesting Probe After Police Station Attack

The National Police Service (NPS) has provided an update following the attack at Chemase Police Post in Nandi County on January 2, 2025.

In a statement dated January 5, NPS said it has arrested former nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) Kisumu Carren Atieno Muga as investigations continue.

NPS revealed that Muga is also the mother of one of the prime suspects of the murder of Enock Kipsang who was beheaded and his private parts chopped off in the Chemase incident.

It is alleged she is involved in organ harvesting and was escaping from her home for fear of being attacked by locals.

“She was arrested along Chemelil-Miwani-Kisumu Road in a suspected organ harvesting case as she was fleeing her residence for fear of being lynched by agitated members of the public, and her motor vehicle make Toyota Harrier detained as exhibit at Kapsabet Police Station,” NPS said.

“We are closing in on the other prime suspects in the matter here-in, as the case is Pending Arrest of Known Accused with DCI Tinderet dealing.”

Meanwhile, police in Chemase recovered from a tractor Reg. No. KSW 364 make FORD, the National and Kenya Police Service flags that were stolen when members of public invaded the police post.

NPS said the items were recovered during a patrol at Chepswerta Market on January 4.

Nandi Security Meeting

Consequently, the Deputy Inspectors General, Eliud Lagat (Kenya Police) and Gilbert Masengeli (Administration Police), held a security consultative meeting with senior NPS officers from all sub-counties in Nandi, led by Nandi CPC Dickens Njogu.

They urged the Commanders to work with the community and local leaders to foster peace, trust and tranquility, and directed that full investigation is logically concluded on the Chemase incident.

Further, the DIGs reiterated IG Douglas Kanja’s call on making police stations centres of excellence in police operations and service delivery.

Police Station Attack

On January 2, locals stormed the Chemase police post in Tinderet Constituency and burned to death murder suspect Victor Kimtai, who was in police custody.

They also set fire to a police Ford Motor vehicle from Potopoto Police Station.

Three police officers were injured, and police tools of trade including radios, the occurrence book, computers, and printers were destroyed during the incident.

The chaos followed the arrest of a suspect who is alleged to have admitted beheading a man and dumping his head into a pit latrine.
